TAST 2012–Week 6–Chevron Stitch

This is my offering in Chevron Stitch for Week 6 of TAST over on Pintangle.
I think it has a bit of a Weeping Willow look about it and it incorporates Chevron Stitch, Half Chevron Stitch and Whipped Chevron Stitch.
It’s worked on shirt fabric – built in guidelines!
I used various perlé and other cotton yarns as well as a glittery fringed thread.

TAST 2012 - Week 5 - Herringbone Stitch

This is also known as Plaited Stitch, Catch Stitch, Fishnet Stitch, Witch Stitch, Mossoul Stitch, Russian Stitch and Russian Cross Stitch.

Worked on space dyed cotton with space dyed viscose ribbon and cotton.

TAST 2012 - Week 4–Cretan Stitch

Also called Persian Stitch, Long Armed Feather Stitch or Quill Stitch.

I sewed on space dyed calico with space dyed cotton and viscose threads.

TAST 2012 - Week 3–Feather Stitch

This week on Pintangle it’s feather stitch.

I worked this on aida and calico that I space dyed.

I used wool, space dyed cotton and viscose, perlé and metallic threads.

TAST 2012 - Week 2–Buttonhole Stitch

This is worked on dyed hessian fabric.

I tried buttonhole wheel, barred buttonhole wheel, long and short buttonhole, buttonhole stitch shading, up and down buttonhole and saw tooth buttonhole – lots of buttonholes but not many holes!

TAST 2012 Week 1–Fly Stitch

This is the first challenge for Take a Stitch Tuesday on Sharon Boggon’s Pintangle blog at http://www.pintangle.com

I worked the stitches on space dyed cotton towelling with lots of different threads and used beads in some of the samples.

Fly stitch is an open detached chain stitch with lots of possible variations and can be like a “V” or a “Y” depending on the length of the anchoring stitch…

I've been playing with the embellisher again - courtesy of Dale's Hot Needles Cool Stitches - just laying down the merino tops, rolling, spritzing and ironing - then a quick blast with the embellisher - so easy!

CALLED THE SMASHEES (means smashing people) there will be 8 COMPLETE WORKSHOPS, one a month

This has been born out of THE CREATIVE CHALLENGERS GROUP whic has been running for nearly 2 years.

The workshops will be posted on a closed BLOG & will include step by step written & pictorial instructions & patterns
They will include: Machine stitching - machine embroidery stitches, machine needle felting, using a serger (overlocker)
Hand stitchery - traditional & innovative
Creating backgrounds - mixed media & fabrics
Working with various tools including heat tools (iron, soldering iron & heat gun)
Discovering products.

Long time no blog

Dear me - I haven't blogged in ages.
We went to Ally Pally and had a great time - nice to meet Dale
and Ian at last and receive a wonderful Pommie Bag. It's still taking time to digest everything we saw and put away everything we got!

Visit to Newark

Went to the Crafty Notions open day in Newark and had a great day being entertained by Sarah Lawrence.

Free Postcard

Yesterday I received the wonderful new books"Stitches, Straps and Layers" by Maggie Grey and "Stitching the Textured Surface" by Carol McFee and Linda Monk - they arrived SO quickly too - thanks for that Maggie - such efficiency!
I got this lovely postcard which I'm assuming is one oj Carol's? though it doesn't seem to be identified - anyway thanks! - I'll treasure it and I love the books.

Teapot Day
